Life after LIFE:Preserving Olana
Almost half a century ago, Frederic Church's artistic masterpiece Olana was nearly ruined.  A LIFE magazine article entitled "Must This Mansion Be Destroyed?" helped to start a national campaign to save Olana.  Since then, much effort has gone into restoring Olana's 250-acre artist-designed landscape, which includes the house and farm complex and collections, as well as protecting its integral viewshed.   This year's exhibit in Olana's Sharp Family Gallery will highlight these myriad achievements.

Free reception 4:30-5:30pm, Artist's talk 5pm
Come celebrate the opening of our 2012 exhibition in the Carriage House Gallery by renowned architectural photographer Peter Aaron. Join the artist in the gallery for an informal talk to about the exhibition featuring highlights of three years investigating unusual views—at all times of the day and throughout the year— all around the Olana property. Peter will give insight into his unique photographic processes and share how his own personal proximity to Olana has allowed his lens to capture Olana's landscape in a unique way.
